Stupid Pricks

So I was listening to some asshole on TV today who was trying to pedal his
book "How stupid are we". His premise is that since we live in a democracy
it's our fault our leadership is pathetic. While it is apparent he is calling us
stupid to get attention I take offense at the notion all these pricks got into
office because we had a choice. The choice is an illusion. The sad fact of
the matter is we don't get to choose between the best and the brightest. We
are forced to choose between the wealthiest and the well connected. You
don't see teachers or scientists in positions of power. You see lawyers and
businessmen. Then you wonder why we have a country run by
corporations and president chosen by the supreme court.

It may be slightly unfair of me to generalize everyone in office as corrupt. I
would like to think there are some people out there who are concerned about
what is good for our country and not just what is good for themselves. I am
however extremely suspicious of those who seek power. But lets play along
with the theory that our leaders are our fault. (We will momentarily forget
about election shenanigans, the electoral college and super delegates) Lets
say we did elect a total dip shit. Oops! Mistakes happen right? But what
choice do we have now? We don't have the choice to elect someone else.
Even when we all recognize the horrible situation around us all we can do is
wait it out and hope it doesn't get worse. We can hope for a better choice in
the future. A choice laid out before us by others with power and money in
the same way that a parent lays out a choice to their child, "You can eat
your corn or your broccoli before you leave the table". Well thats not much
of a choice at all. Either way you're being force fed crap you don't want.
